Marvel's Spider-Man 2 Sets New Record as Fastest-Selling PlayStation Studios Game in 24 Hours

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 has achieved remarkable sales success, surpassing all previous records as the fastest-selling PlayStation Studios game within a 24-hour window. Sony disclosed that Insomniac's PlayStation 5 exclusive has managed to sell more than 2.5 million copies during this brief timeframe. This impressive sales figure encompasses both individual unit pre-orders and units bundled with the PS5. This accomplishment places Spider-Man 2 ahead of Santa Monica Studio's God of War Ragnarok in the rankings for day-one launch sales on PlayStation.

“Insomniac Games holds itself to incredibly high standards when it comes to delivering engaging and innovative gameplay experiences,” said Eric Lempel, SVP, Global Marketing, Sales, and Business Operations, Sony Interactive Entertainment.

“Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is Insomniac Games’ third installment in the franchise for PlayStation. Built from the ground up to take advantage of the unique features of PlayStation 5, the goal was to massively build off the action, storylines, and features from the first two games.

“With an epic storyline, two playable super heroes, a visually-stunning Marvel’s New York, and so much more, this is a game you can get lost in for hours. On behalf of Sony Interactive Entertainment, I want to say thank you to the fans - we truly hope you are enjoying your time playing as Peter and Miles in this amazing adventure.”

It's uncertain whether Spider-Man 2 will be able to surpass the debut week sales of God of War Ragnarok, which reached a total of 5.1 million copies. God of War Ragnarok was released in November 2022 for both PlayStation 4 and PS5. It's important to highlight that Spider-Man 2 is exclusively available on the PS5, which means it is targeting a smaller potential user base compared to Ragnarok's multi-platform release last year.
