Hideo Kojima Signs With Major Hollywood Talent Agency, Teases Movies, Anime, and More

Hideo Kojima, the visionary behind Death Stranding and Metal Gear, has taken a significant step into Hollywood. In a new interview with Variety, Kojima revealed that he has signed with talent agency WME, describing it as his “liaison in the world of TV and film.”

Kojima discussed the future of Kojima Productions, outlining a three-phase plan. The first phase focused on Death Stranding, expanding the game to platforms like Apple, PC, and Sony. He described this as “not necessarily difficult.” A Death Stranding sequel is also slated for next year.

The second phase, according to Kojima, involves branching into “different forms of media: movies, anime, TV dramas, etc.,” and expanding game IPs into other media. The third phase will focus on creating entirely new IPs, which could emerge from “a game, or an anime, or a film, or something totally different.” Kojima emphasized the importance of “digital” as a key theme.

On the subject of the Death Stranding movie, which was announced with A24, Kojima confirmed he wouldn’t be directing but would "supervise the plot and help them make it." When asked about potential directors, Kojima mentioned close relationships with filmmakers like Jordan Peele, Guillermo del Toro, and Nicolas Winding Refn, adding that "we always talk about doing something together."

Kojima also teased several Death Stranding adaptations in development but hinted at a separate, movie-specific story he's written. Although he won’t be directing it, he called this a “test for the third phase.” Clearly, Kojima has a lot more entertainment in store, whether through games, films, or beyond.
