Counter-Strike 2 Gamers Express Frustration Over the Removal of Key Features from CS:GO
Valve made waves earlier this year with the unexpected announcement of Counter-Strike 2, which has now been released as an update to Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) after an extensive beta testing phase. While Counter-Strike 2 introduces several new gameplay elements and significant upgrades, such as weapon refunds and revamped graphics, it has also left many players disheartened because it has essentially replaced the original CS:GO, except for a limited offline 'demo' mode.
In the wake of Counter-Strike 2's launch, players are expressing their disappointment over the absence of cherished features from the original game. Concerned gamers, caught off guard by the changes, are taking to platforms like Reddit and Twitter to voice their grievances.
Shortly after the release of CS2, players started noticing the absence of various features. Reddit user u/cosmictrigger01 compiled a comprehensive list of missing elements from CS:GO, including numerous competitive and Wingman maps, workshop maps, and entire game modes like Arms Race, Flying Scoutsman, and Danger Zone. Many players are now joining the discussion on Reddit, Twitter, and other forums, expressing their confusion and concern about the fate of these modes and whether they will ever return.
"I played Arms Race so much, usually with the same group of guys who just happened to be on at the same time as me," Reddit user u/theicarusambition commented. "So many strangers turned friends, and so many good times. It'd be a real shame if CS2 nixes it."
As GamesRadar pointed out, there have been leaks suggesting the potential return of some Arms Race maps, which has given hope to players anticipating the mode's comeback. Nevertheless, these players remain concerned about Valve's decision to remove these modes without prior notice.
In addition to the removed features, a portion of CS2's player base has been left unable to access the game entirely, as Valve discontinued support for Mac users, with no indication of whether it will be reinstated.
Players have also raised concerns about various technical features, including the absence of commands like "cl_bob," which controls bob animations and was a source of discontent during CS2's beta testing phase.
Furthermore, complaints have arisen regarding CS2's servers. While Valve has increased the game's tick rate with a new system, some international players have reported that the servers have made the game "almost unplayable" compared to CS:GO. A Reddit user u/ykoonab, who plays from Central Asia, mentioned issues such as severe lag, weapon-switching problems, and difficulty jumping when throwing grenades.
Valve has acknowledged these server issues, admitting that they have reached server capacity in various regions. They have pledged to expand server capacity as quickly as possible to address these problems.
While the surprise launch of CS2 has generated its share of negative reactions, it's important to note that there are also positive sentiments expressed by players on platforms like Twitter and Reddit. Some players are appreciating the game's revamped graphics, discussing new features such as responsive smoke grenades, and sharing impressive gameplay clips.
However, it is undeniable that the disappointed players have been vocal in expressing their concerns, and Valve has yet to provide a response to these issues, aside from addressing cheating concerns. Now, the community is eagerly waiting to see whether Valve will reintroduce the missing features or if these changes are indicative of the direction Counter-Strike will take in the future.
