PS6 to Be Powered by Same Chipmaker

Although the PS5 Pro hasn't launched yet, a new report is revealing potential details about the PS6's hardware. Sony has reportedly been in discussions with several companies, including Intel and AMD, to power its next-gen console, with AMD likely being chosen again.

According to Reuters, Intel made a strong bid for the partnership, which could have generated $30 billion in revenue. Talks between Sony and Intel gained momentum in 2022, but disagreements over chip profit margins reportedly became an issue. This paved the way for AMD to secure the deal with Sony for the PS6, though no official announcements have been made.

Earlier in the month, AMD announced that it would not be releasing flagship GPUs for the next generation, fueling speculation that the company might already have plans for future hardware with Sony and Microsoft. AMD currently powers both the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. *GameSpot* has contacted Sony for a response.

A redacted document, which surfaced during Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard in 2022, suggested that the PS6 might not launch until 2028 at the earliest. This timeline was inferred from Sony’s argument against Microsoft potentially making Call of Duty an Xbox exclusive after 2027, though Microsoft eventually succeeded in acquiring Activision Blizzard.

In the meantime, Sony has just announced the $700 PS5 Pro, which is set to release in November.
