PlatinumGames Acquires Rights to The Wonderful 101 From Nintendo

PlatinumGames has taken ownership of The Wonderful 101 franchise from Nintendo, though it’s uncertain if there are plans for sequels. According to a report from VGC, a document submitted to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office shows a transfer of the intellectual property from Nintendo, the original owner, to PlatinumGames.

Originally released as a Wii U exclusive in 2013, The Wonderful 101 was remastered in 2020 and expanded to platforms like PlayStation 4 and PC, in addition to the Nintendo Switch. Now that PlatinumGames holds the rights, future releases are expected to be more multiplatform, similar to their other franchises like Bayonetta and Nier. PlatinumGames did release a surprise expansion, After School Hero, as downloadable content last year.
