Palworld’s PS5 Port Is on Hold Indefinitely in Japan

During Sony’s State of Play presentation, the global launch of Palworld on PS5 was announced in 68 countries and regions. However, Japan was notably absent from that list.

According to a post from the official Japanese Palworld account on X (formerly Twitter), the game’s release date in Japan is still undecided. While no specific reason was given, speculation points to the ongoing patent infringement lawsuit filed by Nintendo and The Pokémon Company against developer Pocketpair last week.

The most recent statement from Pocketpair regarding the issue, released on the 19th, reads in part:

We have received notice of this lawsuit and will begin the appropriate legal proceedings and investigations into the claims of patent infringement.

At this time, we are unaware of the specific patents we are being accused of infringing upon, and we have not yet received notification with those details.
