Diablo 4 Becomes First Microsoft Game Confirmed to Receive a PS5 Pro Enhanced Update
Blizzard has confirmed that Diablo 4 and its upcoming expansion, Vessel of Hatred, will receive a PS5 Pro Enhanced update. This makes Diablo 4 the first game under Microsoft's ownership to officially support Sony's $700 mid-generation PS5 upgrade.
Following Microsoft's $69 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard in 2023, several of the company’s games, including Diablo 4, have been added to Game Pass, although Diablo 4 is not available in the Standard tier. Rod Fergusson, the head of the Diablo franchise, revealed the news on Twitter, praising his team but withholding details on when the update will arrive or what players can expect from the PS5 Pro version. Fergusson simply said, “Very proud of our hardworking team to make this happen. More details at a later date.” The PS5 Pro launches on November 7, while the Vessel of Hatred expansion is set to release next week.
According to PlayStation enthusiasts tracking the PlayStation Store, more than 60 games are expected to be PS5 Pro Enhanced, and IGN has compiled a list of confirmed titles that will be available at launch with the Enhanced label. These titles, including Diablo 4, will make the most of the PS5 Pro’s increased power.
One of the standout features of the PS5 Pro is PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), an AI-powered upscaling technology designed to enhance visual fidelity across all games. However, titles with PS5 Pro Enhanced support are expected to go beyond this by fully utilizing the console’s improved hardware.
Fans are now speculating whether other Activision Blizzard titles will receive similar updates, with Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 being of particular interest. During a recent PS5 Pro preview event, technical leads from major PlayStation games, such as Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and The Last of Us Part 2, discussed the improvements players can expect now that the PS5 Pro will soon be on the market.
